Update: 20091031P: 0733 hours -=- Michel Linn Shannon February 24 1942 - October 26 2009 RIP
At the end he had his Yaesu FT-60R with him so he could talk to his buddies.
Shannon had a number of books published, the last one being "Electronic Surveilance And Wireless Network Hacking", M.L.Shannon and Steve Uhrig, Paladin Press, Boulder Colorado 2005. ISBN 10: 1-58160-475-0

Update: 20090815: 1223 hours -=- When I delivered the Yaesu I put a hackernews.com sticker on the piece of paper they put in the plastic paper holder next to his name and when I returned the time of scanning the building the first time with the wifi scanner I found that the paper had been replaced with a fresh sheet.

Update: 20090814: 1121 hours -=- With Shannon's wifi scanner I found a wireless access point in the cafeteria. All he needs now is his working laptop which has a fan problem.

Update: 20090808: 0034 hours -=- Shannon ordered a new Yaesu FT-60R and had it delivered today

Update: 20090805: 1532 hours -=- Shannon's scanner has been found, as well as his Virgin Mobile broadband card. The Yaesu is still missing. He has another on order. A $100 deductable on his renter's insurance I am going to see if I can make VHCC spring for the deductable.

Update: 20090727: 1735 hours -=- Shannon's phone battery charger has been found. He is back at VHCC. The Yaesu is still missing. I spoke with people with appropriate authority and expect that a search will be under way.

Update: 20090727: 1216 hours -=- Shannon informed me that the FT-60 is $250. The threshold for reporting to the police is $100 and must be done within 36 hours of the discovery of the loss. I reported the loss to VHCC more tha 36 hours ago. I am making this statement as a close confidant read me the rules she agreed to as a consequence of being in such a convalescent hospital as Shannon was in a few days ago and expects to return to today. Acting on the premise that no one is going to assume more liability than necessary, and that that other convalescent hospital is providing the protection required by law and I think it is a reasonable assumption to expect VHHC suffers the same requirements. All that aside VHHC shall be required to replace such radio and allow Shannon to be with his friends in his last hour.

Update: 20090727: 0637 hours -=- Shannon was moved from the fourth floor to the fifth floor and they lost the charger for his phone. When his battery runs out he is down to one of the four ways to communicate with his friends.

Update: 20090726 Shannon was taken across the road to Doctors Hospital and while he was gone his Yaesu FT-60 2 meter band radio walked. Shannon had four ways that he could interact with friends or family:

With his radio gone he no longer has access to a whole section of his friends. Vale Heath Care Center is responsible for this radio being missing AFAIK

Update: 20090620 Shannon calls and asks for his trike, so I load it onto the truck
then in the parking lot I take it off the truck and put it in his room
